Instrument Engineer

1. Instrument & Automation Maintenance

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Instrumentation & Automation systems in upstream oil & gas facilities, including DCS, PLC, SCADA/MMI, SGS, and field instruments.

• Ensure reliability and integrity of control and safety systems through effective maintenance activities.

2. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance

• Execute Preventive Maintenance (PM) based on maintenance plans, historical data, and system condition analysis.

• Handle Breakdown Maintenance (BM) by identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions (RCA).

• Maintain and troubleshoot:

  • Hardware: PLC/DCS panels, control cabinets, transmitters, analyzers, valves, wiring loops

  • Software: control logic, database, configuration, interlock, sequence, and safety logic

3. Control & Safety System Support

• Maintain and support Process Control Systems (PCS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) to ensure compliance with upstream safety standards.

• Support testing, calibration, and functional checks of critical instruments and safety loops.

4. System Modification & Improvement

• Modify, upgrade, and improve Instrument & Automation systems to enhance reliability, safety, and maintainability.

• Improve:

  • Control logic and sequences

  • Interlock and safety logic

  • HMI graphics and alarm management

  • Wiring loop diagrams and technical documentation

5. Shutdown, Turnaround & Revamp Support

• Participate in Shutdown / Turnaround (SD/TA) and revamp activities, including preparation of manpower, tools, spare parts, and work procedures.

• Support testing, commissioning, and reinstatement of systems after maintenance or shutdown activities.

6. Coordination & Vendor Interface

• Coordinate with internal maintenance teams and other disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Process).

• Liaise with vendors and service providers for technical support, spare parts, and specialist manpower during maintenance and turnaround activities.

7. Maintenance Data & Documentation

• Record maintenance activities, equipment history, and system modifications in the maintenance management system (CMMS).

• Collect and analyze maintenance data, including man-hours, failures, and spare part usage.

• Provide technical input for continuous improvement and reliability enhancement.

8. Safety, Environment & Compliance

• Comply with HSE regulations, company procedures, and upstream oil & gas safety standards.

• Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely under approved work permits and risk assessments.

• Report hazards, near misses, incidents, and abnormal conditions to the supervisor.

9. General Responsibilities

• Participate in reliability, integrity, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Perform other maintenance-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation / Automation / Control / Electrical Engineering or related field.

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in Instrument & Automation Maintenance within Upstream Oil & Gas facilities (onshore or offshore).

• Strong experience in maintenance (NOT operation) of:

  • DCS / PLC / SCADA systems

  • Safety systems (SIS / ESD / F&

• Hands-on skills in:

  • Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance (PM / BM)

  • Troubleshooting hardware (panels, field instruments, control valves, wiring loops)

  • Troubleshooting software (logic, interlock, sequence, configuration)

• Experience in Shutdown / Turnaround maintenance and post-maintenance testing.

• Familiar with HSE, PTW systems, and upstream safety standards.

• Able to read and update P&ID, loop diagrams, and technical documents.

• High English proficiency (Speaking/Listening/Reading/Writing).
